The region of Matapédia and the plateaus is at the intersection of the tourist regions of the Baie de Chaleurs, New Brunswick and the Matapédia valley. The main access road is Quebec highway 132 east which circles the Gaspé. The village of Matapédia is approximately 180 km south of the traffic circle at Mont Joli that provides the choice of directions to tour the Gaspé. Matapédia is 76 km south of Amqui and 74 km west of Carleton. From New Brunswick route 11 ends at Matapédia about 25 km west of Campbellton.
St-Alexis de Matapédia, St-François d’Assise and l’Ascension de Patapédia are accessible via two bridges that cross the Matapédia river, one at the village of Matapédia and a second about 8 km north on route 132 in the direction of Amqui. St. André de Restigouche is reached by a highway about 3 km north of Matapédia.
